What We Believe

We are a Spirit-led, Bible believing church

Cathedral is a charismatic evangelical church committed to the authority of Scripture, the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, and the person and work of Jesus Christ.

Under God and the authority of His Word, the pastors and Session of Cathedral affirm the following beliefs as foundational to our faith, life, and ministry.

1. The Triune God

We believe in the one living and true God, perfect in love, holiness, and righteousness. God is one in essence and exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

2. God’s Revelation

God reveals Himself through creation and has made Himself known savingly through His acts and words throughout redemptive history. This revelation finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, whom we come to know through the Holy Spirit and the witness of Scripture.

3. The Holy Scriptures

We believe the books of the Old and New Testaments are inspired by God and are the trustworthy written Word of God. Scripture is our final authority and infallible rule for faith and practice.

We seek to interpret Scripture faithfully according to its context and purpose, with reverence and obedience to the Lord who continues to speak through His Word by the power of the Holy Spirit.

4. Creation and Humanity

We believe God freely created all things for His glory. Men and women are created in the image of God and were made for fellowship with Him.

Through sin, humanity rebelled against God and became separated from Him. Apart from God’s grace, we are unable to restore that relationship on our own and are in need of redemption.

5. Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God and the only mediator between God and humanity.

Conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, Jesus became fully human while remaining fully God. He lived a life of perfect obedience and, through His death on the cross, bore our sin, revealed the love of God, satisfied divine justice, and reconciled us to God.

On the third day, Jesus rose bodily from the grave, victorious over sin, death, and the powers of darkness. He ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of the Father, where He intercedes for His people and reigns as Lord over all.

6. Salvation and the Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit draws people to Jesus Christ, renews our hearts, and leads us to repentance and faith.

Through faith in Jesus Christ, we receive the forgiveness of sins, are justified by grace through faith, and receive the free gift of eternal life.

The Holy Spirit dwells within every believer, empowering us to follow Jesus, become more like Him, and participate in His work in the world to make our world look more like heaven.

7. Life in Christ

Through Jesus Christ, God graciously adopts us into His family and enables us to know Him as Father.

As we are led by the Holy Spirit, we grow in our knowledge and love of God, learn to obey His Word, and seek to live in such a way that others may see our lives and glorify our Father in heaven.

8. The Church

We believe God, through His Word and Spirit, creates one holy, universal, and apostolic Church, calling people from every nation, culture, and background into the fellowship of the body of Christ.

Though expressed through many congregations, cultures, and traditions, the Church is spiritually one with the people of God throughout history.

9. The Mission and Ministry of the Church

We believe the Church is called first to love, worship, and minister to the Lord, and from His presence to minister to one another and then to the world.

Jesus calls His Church to proclaim the gospel, make disciples of all nations, teach the Word of God, administer the sacraments, care for His people, serve those in need, and minister in the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit.

We believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit remain active in the Church today, including gifts of healing, prophecy, discernment, and other manifestations of the Spirit given for the building up of the body of Christ and the advancement of His Kingdom.

10. The Return of Christ and the Kingdom of God

We believe Jesus Christ will return in glory. He will raise the dead, judge humanity, and bring God’s redemptive purposes to their fulfillment.

Those who belong to Christ will live and reign with Him forever in the fullness of His Kingdom. Creation itself will be renewed, and all things will ultimately display the glory of the God who makes all things new.

Christian Lifestyle Guidelines

“Therefore, we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him” – 2 Corinthians 5:9

Following Jesus involves every part of our lives lived out on a daily basis.

At Cathedral, we seek to cultivate a community shaped by biblical truth, personal integrity, humility, accountability, holiness, compassion, and grace. Our desire is not simply to profess what we believe, but to live faithfully as disciples of Jesus in our homes, relationships, workplaces, church, and community.

The Sanctity of Life:

We believe every human life is created by God and bears inherent dignity and value.

Scripture teaches that God knows and forms us even in the womb (Psalm 139:13–16). Therefore, we believe human life is sacred and should be protected, honored, and cared for from conception to natural death.

We seek to embody this conviction with both truth and compassion, caring for the vulnerable and extending the love and mercy of Jesus to people facing difficult circumstances.

Marriage & Sexuality:

We believe God created humanity as male and female and established marriage as a covenantal union between one man and one woman.

Marriage is intended to reflect the faithful, covenant love of Christ for His Church. Within this covenant, sexual intimacy is a gift from God reserved for marriage and characterized by faithfulness, love, honor, and mutual care.

We also honor singleness as a meaningful and valuable calling and an opportunity for wholehearted devotion and service to God.

Scripture calls every follower of Jesus—married or single—to sexual holiness. Therefore, we believe sexual activity outside of biblical marriage, including adultery, pornography, and other forms of sexual immorality, falls outside of God’s design for human sexuality.

In all matters of sexuality and gender, we seek to hold firmly to biblical truth while treating every person with dignity, compassion, honor, and love.

A Life of Discipleship:

We believe followers of Jesus are called to continually grow in their relationship with God and their commitment to His Church.

This includes participating regularly in worship and Christian community, prayer, studying Scripture, serving others, practicing generosity and tithing, walking in personal integrity, honoring spiritual leadership, and contributing positively to the life and mission of the church.

These practices are not a means of earning God’s love or salvation. They are a response to the grace we have already received and part of our ongoing formation as disciples of Jesus.

A Life of Discipleship:

We believe Scripture calls Christians to wisdom, self-control, and sobriety.

While Scripture does not prohibit the responsible consumption of alcohol, it clearly condemns drunkenness. Therefore, we encourage moderation, wisdom, and sensitivity toward others.

We believe recreational drug use is inconsistent with the biblical call to sobriety, self-control, and stewardship of our bodies and should be avoided.

Grace and Truth:

Above all, we recognize that every one of us is dependent upon the grace of God.

Our desire is to follow Jesus faithfully, holding together grace and truth as He did. We do not approach these convictions from a place of self-righteousness, but with humility, knowing that we continually need the mercy, forgiveness, transformation, and empowering presence of the Holy Spirit.

We want Cathedral to be a community where people can encounter Jesus, experience His grace, be transformed by His truth, and learn to live fully surrendered to Him.
